A century ago, Brother Thomas, the last surviving monk of the Monasterio del Santo Reino, performed forbidden rituals to summon Infernus, a demon of pure hatred and destruction. Driven by desperation after Moorish raiders killed all his brothers, Thomas sought vengeance through demonic power.
According to Thomas's journal, Infernus quickly grew "wild and uncontrollable, no longer listening to my commands." The demon began wreaking havoc without direction or purpose, threatening all of Iberia rather than just the Moors.
The campaign materials suggest a darker possibility: Thomas may have lost his sanity entirely. The "Malphus Demon" prompt indicates Thomas might believe he summoned a demon, but in reality, he himself has been "performing heinous acts on nearby villages, acting as a demon named Malphus."
Two possibilities exist:
The Monasterio del Santo Reino location notes state: "In the deepest chamber of the monastery, the adventurers come face to face with the dungeon's final challenge: a powerful and ancient demon, imprisoned within the monastery centuries ago by the monks who once lived there."
