Halfdan and Fatima's Conspiracy

The secret affair and embezzlement scheme between Halfdan the Red and Fatima al-Rashid, threatening to expose both if discovered.

The Affair

Halfdan the Red, a Norseman in service to the Emir of Valencia, is having a secret affair with Fatima al-Rashid, the Emir's wife or main concubine. This relationship is carried on in secret, with Fatima writing to Halfdan in crude Norse runes.

The Embezzlement

Both Halfdan and Fatima are complicit in embezzling funds from the Emir. They have been stealing wealth and hiding it in old Roman ruins, with plans to eventually escape to the North together.

The Letter

The party currently possesses a letter from Fatima to Halfdan (written in Norse runes) that:

  • Confirms the affair
  • Reveals the embezzlement
  • Contains a map to the Roman Ruins Treasure
  • Mentions their plans to escape

The Blackmail Potential

Halfdan is currently hunting the party for the alleged murder of an imam, but the party holds this compromising letter. This creates a complex dynamic where:

  • Halfdan is vulnerable to blackmail
  • Fatima is desperate to maintain secrecy
  • The party has leverage but is also being hunted
  • Exposure would destroy both conspirators

Current Status

The affair and embezzlement continue while Halfdan actively pursues the party, unaware they possess evidence that could ruin him. The treasure in the Roman ruins remains unclaimed.
