Roman Ruins Treasure

The race to claim stolen wealth hidden in ancient Roman ruins by Halfdan the Red and Fatima al-Rashid.

The Hidden Wealth

Halfdan the Red and Fatima al-Rashid have been embezzling funds from the Emir of Valencia, hiding their stolen wealth in old Roman ruins outside the city. This cache represents a significant accumulation of treasure taken over an extended period.

The Map

A letter from Fatima to Halfdan (currently in the party's possession) contains a map showing the location of these Roman ruins and the hidden treasure. The letter also discusses their plans to eventually escape to the North together with this wealth.

The Stakes

Multiple parties have interest in this treasure:

The Party: Currently holds the map and could claim the treasure for themselves

Halfdan and Fatima: Desperately need the wealth for their planned escape, but don't know the party has the map

The Emir: Would demand justice if he discovered his wealth was stolen

Alaric: Has "partial knowledge" about Halfdan's activities - unclear if he knows about the treasure

Current Status

  • The treasure remains unclaimed in the Roman ruins
  • The party possesses the map but has not yet acted on it
  • Halfdan and Fatima continue their activities, unaware their plan is compromised
  • No one else appears to know the exact location

Complications

  • Recovering the treasure would draw attention
  • The party is currently being hunted by Halfdan
  • Using the treasure could expose the affair and embezzlement
  • The Roman ruins may have their own dangers

Potential Outcomes

  1. Party Claims It: Significant wealth but potential complications with Halfdan
  2. Blackmail Leverage: Use knowledge of the treasure to manipulate the conspirators
  3. Exposure: Reveal the plot to the Emir, destroying both conspirators
  4. Race: If Halfdan discovers the party has the map, a race to claim it
