Cato, Julius, and Cassius

Cato, Julius, and Cassius

Cato, Julius, and Cassius are the three entities that collectively form the Elder of Luck, one of the five Elders that represent the primal forces of Verden. They are believed to most commonly manifest as dragons, like the other Elders.

The Tripartite Nature

Unlike the other Elders, which appear to be singular entities, Luck manifests as three distinct beings. Whether Cato, Julius, and Cassius are:

  • Three aspects of a single consciousness
  • Three independent entities that share an Elder's role
  • Three brothers or companions bound together
  • Something else entirely beyond mortal comprehension

...remains unknown.

Nature and Domain

As the Elder(s) of Luck, Cato, Julius, and Cassius represent chance, fortune, probability, and the capricious nature of fate versus randomness. They preside over five divine domains that draw power from this cosmic force.

The relationship between Kirkwood (Fate) and Cato, Julius, and Cassius (Luck) raises profound questions about determinism versus chance in the cosmos.

Connection to Divinity

According to the principles of Divinity and Magic on Tarras, Cato, Julius, and Cassius are one of the sources of the 25 "god spots" available on Tarras. Each Elder controls five domains, and those who ascend to godhood within Luck's domains draw their power ultimately from these three.

Mysteries

Little is truly known about the nature of Cato, Julius, and Cassius, whether they act in concert or conflict, or whether they involve themselves in the affairs of mortals and gods. Like all the Elders, they remain cosmic enigmas.
